The Most Valuable Skill a Person Can Have For Their Entire Life

Resilience.

At one point or another of your life, you will fall. You will not get that job you so wanted, someone will break your heart, someone dear to you will die, you may be betrayed, see no way out...

The point is, you will feel like the ground has shaken under your feet. You may lose faith in everything and see everything black. No hope of pulling out.

Being able to rebound from that, to not let it sink you, to reinvent yourself and pull your life up and forward... That's the best skill you may ever learn. Failure is inevitable, a part of life. Defeat is optional.

  2. We can do really nothing without failure. Each failure teach us something different and it is a part of life. Resilience = sometimes it takes a few days to be back on track.
"It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all - in which case, you fail by default." - quote by J.K. Rowling

  3. Can I just say that this post, although short makes so much sense! It's powerful and it's true. We all need to learn how to get up again after a failure, especially when it's not our fault. I love how you said that defeat is optional, because it is. We can always choose to get back up and fight.

  6. Love that last line 'defeat is optional,' I think there is a great quote from Confucius that can be applied to this post, which goes 'When it is obvious that your goals cannot be reached, don't change your goals, change your action.'

  8. Failure - no problem. I've overcome lots of failure and I've learned from it. I'm finding overcoming the loss of a loved one to be a lot more difficult.

  12. It already becomes more often now that I hear that failure does not exist. It's only learning from our experiences that is counted as important.

  19. Whenever I see or heard the word Resilience, the disaster happened in my city seven years ago is just coming back. It was a typhoon and flood reached until the roof of our house. I was just grateful how resilient I and my family were after it. And like in life, no matter how hard it could be, learning to get up after a failure matters most. :)

  28. Very true. As long as you are resilient you can get through anything. It is foolish to pretend that bad things won't happen to you because they always do and one must be prepared.
