Binge by Tyler Oakley - Book Review

Pop-culture phenomenon, social rights advocate, and the most prominent LGBTQ+ voice on YouTube, Tyler Oakley brings you his first collection of witty, personal, and hilarious essays.

For someone who made a career out of over-sharing on the Internet, Tyler has a shocking number of personal mishaps and shenanigans to reveal in his first book: experiencing a legitimate rage blackout in a Cheesecake Factory; negotiating a tense standoff with a White House official; crashing a car in front of his entire high school, in an Arby’s uniform; projectile vomiting while bartering with a grandmother; and so much more. In Binge, Tyler delivers his best untold, hilariously side-splitting moments with the trademark flair that made him a star.

This was my first audio book that I listened to on Audible and I must say I'm obsessed with hearing books that are read by the authors themselves. Even though the whole book was long seven hours and at first looking at how long it will take to hear the whole book I was like 'I don't have that much time'. But I started listening and the time flew by and I think I ended listening the book for 5-6 days.

The book was fun and interesting for me, maybe because I follow Tyler frequently on YouTube and watch his videos, but I think it will be also fun for anyone who doesn't know him. This book shows his whole life basically. I loved the book from the start to the finish and I can't think of anyting that I didn't really liked. I have to say that it was my absolute favorite this month!

Thanks!

  2. I never heard of him. But based on your review, he sounds like a comic but a very substantive individual. He seems like a normal guy that takes the stories in a while different level, a level that people will find interesting.

  6. I have to admit I don't know him. But I like audio books and, I agree with you, they are much better when the author is reading his own book. Since you said that this book is funny, I will look for it. It's a little intimidating that it lasts 7 hours, but I can always listen to it little by little every day. Thanks!

  9. I love that Youtubers are able to express themselves in a different way through books, look at Pointless Blog's book, so different and outside of the book! Tyler's is next on my list to read

  13. Ooohh looks like an interesting book! I need more audio books in my life, it's perfect for when I am driving or traveling. It seems like the best way one can spend their time stuck in traffic. I'll look this up!

  14. I think audio books are brilliant, you can listen to them while you go to commute, while you relax in the park and even before you go to sleep. I think 7 hours it's not that long for a book. And you won't listen to it all at once.

    1. It's long but when I usually wait, travel or something else I listen and the time goes by :)

  19. I guess it's time for me to try audio books. This is something you can listen to while driving or commuting, or during downtime when you're trying to find sleep. I don't know who Tyler is, I will try to Google the guy to get a better understanding of his book

  25. The cover looks inviting, me personally, I don't really like just reading essays though, I prefer a "whole book".

  29. I was a fan, but I stopped following him, because all he did was self promote himself. Anything he did, was to self promote, I didn't even feel the fan-ytber connection. I'm interested in the book tho, but I think it's just drama drama drama, is it?

    1. Well, that's their job to promote themselves but yeah I see why you stopped following him. It's not drama, drama... it's his life basically. Thanks for commenting :)
